“Gender issues” have been raised and addressed in various fields in Myanmar for almost 20 years by both local and international actors. However, it is still far from receiving the active participation of men in most of areas. Moreover, the term ‘gender’ and gender equality movement are misinterpreted as women’s issues while the term ‘women’ and ‘violence against women’ are inevitably used in most of the discussions on gender issues.
This kind of situation makes less interest and less involvement of men in the endeavor for gender equality movement in the country. On the other hand, men’s role and their active participation are crucial for achieving greater gender equality in the society.
Therefore, the GDI initiates providing safe spaces for men to raise and discuss their concerns, worries, and anxieties around gender equality movement among their fellow men.
This program is being implemented through the support of Thar Thi Myay Foundation.
